Where the Sane Should Fear to Tread

And the day keeps getting better... So much for the "turning to rain in the afternoon" part of the forecast - it's snowing like a son-of-a-bitch right now.

The WCE is running, but only from Coquitlam out. If I gotta bus/skytrain to Braid, I may as well finish the trip on the bus... provided it's running. Got a call into MrFixIt to see about hitching a ride home with him. The highway cams are showing snow still fallling pretty good out my way.

Ah, snow in the Lower Mainland is so loverly and full of laugh. People! You cannot stop on a dime in snow and slush - leave some fucking room and slow the hell down. When I see you try to stop fast and end up on the curb or smack into a large, stationary object I will not hide my laughter; you deserve it and then some.

Massive hugs and smoochies to MrFixIt and SiL on this morning of snow. Despite the crappy weather and the extra time/effort, they picked me up anyway. I'd prepared for a call saying "not going in, you're on your own" and resigned myself to hiking through the snow to the WCE. Little did I know the WCE, due to a derailment, wasn't running fully so I would have had a 'fun' commute. There's no guarantee the WCE will be running for the commute home either.

So far, there's been three cancellations this morning and Boss-man is dragging his feet coming in. Daycare is not open so hubby - thankfully not working yet - will have Squirmy duty at home. This could end up being a short day at wor

Hubby took Squirmy to the Aquarium on Friday. The highlights of the day included:
  • A squirrel watching Squirmy pee on a tree
  • Riding "Mommy's train", a bus and two baby boats
  • Seeing Police boats
  • Being treated like a big boy by the waitress in a restraunt
  • Riding home with Mommy on her train

All in all, it sounded like Squirmy had a grand old time.

Nuke 'n' Paved Sis's 'puter on Saturday. Some odd shit happening on it - primarily stuff that was more annoying than anything else and could be ignored/worked around - but it wouldn't take any updates. Did repair install first, figuring something was barked but fixable, but the damn thing still wouldn't take any updates or validate. At that point, it was more time-efficient to wipe the sucker and start from scratch. Thankfully, they'd just bought an external USB drive so all the 'must have' data was transfered to there before wiping.

Sunday was a sad day for Squirmy.

At Xmas he had to start eating what hubby and I do for dinner. If the meal is spaghetti, pizza or taco then no problem but anything else... The kid has been going underfed for three weeks and that's enough. As of last Thursday, he has to eat everything on his plate, regardless whether he likes it or not. It's not like I give him a lot - things he hasn't tried before (such as most of the food we eat) I only give him a little.

Last night, he decided he wasn't going to like barbecued rib meat. Now I don't care if he wants to watch cartoons while having dinner since hubby and I prefer to read while eating. So Squirmy is served in front of the TV at five-ish. Five-thirty hubby and I are finished and cleaning up; Squirmy has eaten his half bun, the four little pieces of apple, none of the coleslaw (sans dressing) nor any of the meat. He's warned to start eating the rest or he'll be moved into the kitchen. Five-forty-five, I go out for my tea and Squirmy moves into the kitchen. He's told when I come back inside (usually fifteen to twenty minutes) he's to be done eating. If not, it's off to the bath then back to the table to finish his dinner.

I come back in, Squirmy is just getting in the tub and his dinner is sitting on the kitchen table untouched. Bath done, back to the table and the crying begins anew. Hubby informs his son there would be no playing until the meat was gone and if he didn't stop crying there would also be a time-out coming. There were two time-outs. Squirmy was informed that he had until the microwave said "seven three zero" and if he wasn't done, then it was tooth brushing and right to bed with no stories. Squirmy was very sad to have no stories but he did get 'cuddles' in bed.

Here's hoping dinner tonight goes better.

For the last couple days, in my off moments, I've been reading a great comic - The Whiteboard. I'm not a paintballer, but I've known a few (and consequently still remember a little of the lingo). The comic is a riot so if you're looking for some fun and laughs, give it a whirl.

"Your actions are currently biting you in the ass"

Hubby had a job interview yesterday and it went well; he goes back for 'round two' next week *crosses fingers*

After said interview, he phoned one of the fellas still working at the old company (they got along very well and this guy refused to sit on hubby's 'termination meeting', calling the action stupid and undeserving) and got some interesting news. The Western Canada manager, who 'terminated' nearly everyone in the office, is in deep do-do. He's been discovering just how much hubby did and handled on a day-to-day basis and that no-one else can do even a quarter of what hubby did. Letters of Discipline and Disciplinary meetings? Scheduling? Health and Safety? Sorry, those were handled by hubby and the two remaining guys don't know how to do it. And the icing on the cake is the one fella is actively (very!) searching for another job and hopes to be gone by months end. That would leave the WCM with no one who knows how to manage the office, schedule the warehouse, work sick days or solve union/management issues. WCM would be screwed six ways from Sunday. Oh yes, it was such a good idea to 'terminate' nearly everyone without having anyone else to pick up the extra work *evil snicker*.

Ya know, I'm not waiting until the current term is up with my web host. Today's issue is an 'Internal Server Error', as in my web site will not display. FTP and webmail work just fine, but accessing the site through a browser is not possible. I'm fed up with this host. It took just under thirty minutes to correct, for which I'm grateful someone was on the help desk and able to correct the issue, but isn't there monitoring of stuff like this? I dunno and don't care at this point.

This week, hubby is on a twelve-to-eight (pm) shift. So why did he meet me at the train last night? Seems the company was bought out and he's been laid off. Six weeks severance and holidays to be paid out. Two thousand and eight is starting off very well *snort*.
